Electric vehicles (EVs) are growing in popularity at an impressive pace, but charging networks face significant challenges. Building fixed charging stations is slow, expensive, and often inflexible in adapting to changes in demand. Finnish robotics expertise and innovative charging technology come together as Probot Oy and Rollyy join forces to tackle these issues. The solution they are developing aims to improve EV charging services and make charging more flexible than ever before.

Rollyy is a pioneer in autonomous charging solutions, with a vision to revolutionize the EV charging experience.

Leading the Way in Technology

The strategic partnership between Probot and Rollyy, unveiled at the IFA Berlin trade fair in September 2024, has sparked widespread interest. Rollyy is a frontrunner in autonomous charging solutions, aiming to redefine how EVs are charged.

At Probot, we believe technology has the potential to solve some of the greatest challenges of our time.

Rollyy’s vision of innovative and more sustainable charging solutions aligns closely with our own values. This collaboration is a natural extension of our mission to lead in technology and create solutions that shape the future.

Probot’s strong expertise in robotics and autonomous systems, combined with Rollyy’s groundbreaking approach to EV charging, provides the perfect foundation for transformative technology. In this partnership, Probot is responsible for designing and manufacturing the robot’s mobility platform, while Rollyy focuses on the charging technology.

– Probot’s robotics and engineering expertise is crucial for meeting the technical demands of our charging platforms and enhancing the performance and reliability of our robots, says Rollyy CEO David Vasquez.

Cutting-edge robotics brings power where it’s needed

The EV charging robot developed by Rollyy and Probot addresses key challenges in EV usage.

Imagine a charging robot that doesn’t wait for you at a fixed station but comes to you where the charging is needed. Probot’s advanced mobility platform allows Rollyy’s charging robot to move seamlessly. The platform is designed to perform reliably in busy urban environments and under various weather conditions. Its modular structure extends the robot’s lifespan, while intelligent sensor and safety systems ensure efficient and secure operation.

– This project is not just a technological innovation but a solution to how we can make EV charging truly flexible and user-friendly. It is also a prime example of how Finnish technological expertise can address global challenges, says Probot CEO Matti Tikanmäki.

Smarter and More Sustainable Charging

“Together with Rollyy, we are building a charging solution that not only supports EV users but also advances global sustainability goals.”

The charging robot developed through the partnership between Rollyy and Probot offers solutions to multiple EV challenges. While the technology is still under development, its potential is immense. The autonomous charging robot will provide significant benefits to many stakeholders:

  • Cities and businesses can save costs by reducing the need for fixed charging stations.
  • EV drivers will enjoy more flexible services as the charging comes to the vehicle.
  • Charging capacity automatically adapts to demand, reducing congestion.
  • Intelligent energy management optimizes the use of renewable energy and smooths out peak loads.

– Together with Rollyy, we are building a charging solution that not only supports EV users but also advances global sustainability goals, Tikanmäki explains.

Towards the Future of EV Charging

Rollyy and Probot’s charging robots are currently at the heart of development and have already garnered significant attention. Initial demos have shown promising possibilities, but work continues. The next steps will focus on refining the technology, improving scalability, and launching pilot projects.

Future charging networks will no longer be limited to fixed charging stations. Autonomous charging robots can deliver charging services wherever they’re needed – intelligently and with respect for the environment.

– The role of technology is to make life smoother and more sustainable. We are proud to work with Rollyy to create solutions that shape the future of EV charging, Tikanmäki concludes.

We recently showcased the charging robot to an enthusiastic audience at the Olkkari 12.12.2024 event organized by the Oulu Innovation Alliance. During the event, we also demonstrated the robot’s functionality in a parking garage. Our technology generated significant interest, and the audience was impressed by the potential of our solution. This sets a great foundation as we move forward with next year’s pilot projects – one of which could take place in Kivisydän, a location well-known to us here in Oulu.
