Finnish technology expertise meets an international audience as we participate for the first time in the IFA Berlin trade show from September 6th to 10th, 2024. At the event, we’ll be presenting our latest innovation in sustainable robotics and unveiling a significant new partnership.
Probot is one of four Oulu-based technology companies selected by ICTOulu to represent Finnish excellence in Berlin. Joining us are Neurosonic, Taitonetti, and Valfi.
Future technologies and sustainable solutions are at the forefront as we bring Finnish expertise to the global stage. At the event, we’ll be showcasing the eco-friendly Dolly™ mobile robot and announcing a new partnership with Rollyy, an intelligent electric vehicle charging robot.
IFA Berlin is the world’s largest trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The event attracts over 200,000 visitors annually, along with thousands of international journalists.
Representing Probot in Berlin are CEO Matti Tikanmäki and Sales Manager Maria Ruottinen. IFA is a crucial step in advancing our internationalization strategy.
– When ICTOulu proposed these trade shows, we recognized it as a brilliant opportunity. IFA, or Innovation for All, is the perfect platform to showcase how Finnish expertise can have a global impact in the field of robotics, says Maria.
– If we want to be part of creating the next generation of robotics, we need to be present at events where the future of robotics and consumer trends are painted with broad strokes. This trade show gives us the chance to get direct feedback and see how our products resonate in international markets, Matti adds.
A New Direction in Sustainable Robotics
We’re heading to Berlin with a special focus on showcasing the Dolly™ mobile robot, whose latest version represents a new direction in sustainable robotics. The robot’s exterior panels are handcrafted from locally sourced curly birch.
– Robotics enhances production efficiency and reduces waste, which inherently promotes sustainability. However, we wanted to go further by considering sustainability in the choice of construction materials and suppliers as well, Matti emphasizes.
“With its wooden exterior, the Dolly™ mobile robot embodies our commitment to sustainability and innovations that address today’s environmental challenges.”

The rapid advancement of technology has brought many innovations, but it has also compelled us to reassess our material choices and their environmental impact. Traditional materials like metals and plastics are heavy, difficult to shape, and burden the environment. As climate change accelerates and demands for sustainability grow, it’s clear that we need to find better, more eco-friendly options for robotics.
– The wooden-clad Dolly™ is a testament to our dedication to sustainability and innovation in addressing modern environmental challenges, Maria adds.
Electric Vehicle Charging Robotics in Partnership
At IFA Berlin, our booth will also feature Rollyy, an autonomous electric vehicle charging robot that complements our commitment to sustainability and technological innovation. Rollyy has been developed to address challenges in electric vehicle charging, such as high electricity costs and limited charging infrastructure. Using Rollyy reduces environmental impact compared to traditional charging methods, especially when combined with renewable energy.
– Rollyy is a leader in autonomous charging solutions for electric vehicles (EV). Their unique charging robot enhances the efficiency, accessibility, and reliability of EV charging, Matti explains.
Probot is responsible for designing and manufacturing the chassis for Rollyy’s charging robots, with a particular focus on sustainability, mobility, and adaptability in various environments.
– This partnership is a significant step forward in our mission to revolutionize the electric vehicle charging experience, says David Vasquez, CEO of Rollyy.
– Probot’s expertise in robotics and engineering is crucial in developing a chassis that not only meets our technical requirements but also enhances the performance and reliability of our autonomous charging robots.

We will be announcing our partnership with Rollyy at IFA, and we are proud to be their mobile robot supplier. This collaboration is a major milestone in the advancement of electric vehicle charging solutions and supports the global transition toward more sustainable mobility.
International Expansion, Networking, and a New Boost for Our Operations
The IFA Berlin trade show is a significant step towards our company’s internationalization and growth. The event offers an excellent opportunity to network and showcase our expertise to the world. With the latest technological innovations and trends on display, we can draw inspiration to further develop our operations.
“Given that we already receive inquiries ranging from mining robotics to space applications, we can only imagine what an event of this scale will bring.”
Matti Tikanmäki / Probot Oy
The joint ICTOulu and Probot booth is located in a hall dedicated to technological innovations. Matti and Maria are eager to focus on international networking at the event, engaging with distributors, investors, and other key players in the tech industry.
– At events like these, Probot often makes unexpected connections. With inquiries already coming in from mining to space robotics, we can only speculate what an event of this magnitude will bring. After IFA, it will be exciting to see what we’ve learned and what connections we’ve made to help us grow globally, Matti reflects.
– I believe that IFA will significantly accelerate Dolly’s readiness for integration and testing in various environments. Seeing ourselves in a broader European context gives us added momentum in everything we do, Maria observes.
Matti and Maria also believe the trade show is an opportunity to learn how our solutions are received in international markets. Challenging questions and constructive feedback help us improve.
– At the moment, we can only guess how our work is perceived externally. We have to seek this feedback from the world because no one will come to our office to tell us,” Matti says.
Matti believes that it might take a year or two after IFA Berlin before we can fully list everything we’ve learned from the event.
– An international event of this scale offers an immense learning curve that simply can’t be achieved by sitting in a conference room. Sometimes you have to take the plunge, challenge yourself, and put your work out there for evaluation.
