RADIANCE modernizes construction tools

The RADIANCE project addresses Europe-wide challenges in the construction sector. Its goal is to improve the efficiency, safety and sustainability of new construction, renovation and maintenance of buildings. The project will utilize advanced solutions in robotics, automation and digital technologies.

RADIANCE

The RADIANCE project aims to bring modern robotics, automation and digital tools to the construction industry. They will make construction and repair faster, more efficient, safer and, in the long term, more sustainable. The project will last four years.

RADIANCE ecosystem

The tools developed in the project form a modular and interoperable ecosystem that supports the entire renovation workflow, from facade inspection to the planning and implementation of repair measures. The functionality of the solutions will be tested in three different scenarios. The test areas are located in different countries and cover a wide range of building types and materials.

Tools to be developed

Robotic systems

  • Autonomous inspection drones
  • Cable robot systems for facade plaster repair
  • Quadruple robots for monitoring and logistics support

AI and Automation

  • AI-based defect detection and assessment
  • Predictive models for safety and workflow optimisation
  • Automated decision-support tools

Digitalisation Tools

  • A digital twin platform integrating BIM, sensor data, simulation, and site information
  • Logistics and planning optimisation models
  • Worker-support technologies including AR-based guidance and C-ITS communication tools

Advanced Monitoring & NDE

  • Multiphysics Non-Destructive Evaluation probes
  • Automated structural condition analysis

The role of Probot Oy

A robot suitable for inspections and renovations

On the RADIANCE project we are collaborating with VTT. We are developing a robot that moves on walls and serves as a platform for the tools developed by VTT.

The robot is intended to inspect plastered walls, locate cracks and loose plaster. It should also be able to repair the plastered walls, i.e. remove damaged areas, install a support mesh and spread mortar. The implementation will be tested in Oulu under laboratory conditions and in Spain on a real building.
