During this year, eight new Liila information boards, that we programmed, have appeared on the streets of Oulu. The system, that was piloted last year with just one board, is used to calculate pedestrian and bike lane usage.
Our home municipality, Oulu, has just been chosen as the cycling municipality of the year 2020. In Oulu, a lot has been invested in cycling, for example, in the implementation of the banana network and in the continuous and open-minded development of winter maintenance. Now the system developed by Oulu Community and Environmental Services and Oulun Energia Urakointi Oy will make the pedestrian and bike lanes even more attractive and serve their users.
The Liila information boards show the number of the pedestrians and cyclists using the route during the current day and year and in addition provide up-to-date information on, for example, route maintenance and weather. For the city, the system allows the collection of this real-time information and a possibility to see the changes in the long term. This data can then be used to further develop the pedestrian and bike lanes and routes.
Oulun Energia Urakointi Oy subcontracted the software, with the implemented communication with the city’s data collection system, from us.
